1914-1920 British War Medal LIEUT W G BELL (CMGC). A silver war medal with King George V, bareheaded, facing the left with the inscription "GEORGIVS V BRITT : OMN : REX ET IND : IMP." On the reverse side is a horseman, St. George, holding a sword, representing the Allied victory over the Prussians. St George is trampling over the Prussian shield, skull, and cross-bones. Near the upper right rim is the Sun of Victory. The dates 1914 and 1918 appear on the left and right sides of the St. George side. The ribbon includes seven stripes, blue, black, white, orange centre, white, black, and blue.Context
The British War Medal was awarded to all members of the Canadian military who served in any theatre of war between August 5, 1914, and November 11, 1918. Those who served in the Overseas Military Forces of Canada (OMFC) in the United Kingdom and did not participate in a theatre of war were not given the medal.
