Description

1885-1910 Canadian Militia Home Service Helmet. Buff white wool upper over pressed cork shell, 6 sewn panels, white leather headband. At top is 3.2cm. Diameter circular brass mount for gilt metal socket plume holder (plume missing). General infantry copper helmet plate the British coat of arms. Interior lined with light green linen. 2cm. wide canvas/cardboard inner headband joined to a 6.5cm. Brown leather sweatband with purple sateen headband tightener adjustable through one knotted purple ribbon. copper hooks on either side of the sweatband for the helmet strap. Faded off white quilted silk crown lining. Lacquered fabric vents on the sides of the sweatband.
