Research Notes

Notes

W. Mullins Research Notes - The Joseph Berry Memorial Trophy was presented to the Club at the Annual Meeting on December 14, 1937 by Jack Berry and his mother, Sarah Berry. It was presented for best overall annual performance in memory of 'Joe' Berry, a popular member of the RHYC, who lost his life in a dinghy sailing accident off Port Stanley June 21, 1936. Berry had been a RHYC dinghy sailor, then became active crew for Norman Robertson on Crusader and Vreda; Robertson called him "one of the best sailors on the Bay". Robertson himself won the award in 1939 for best sailing record of the season. Hamilton Spectator - Tue, Jun 23, 1936 ·Page 10 & Feb 10, 1940, pg 23.
