Description

Small diamond shaped lapel pin, made of metal and enamel. The front is bordered in gold with a royal blue enamel background. In the centre, there is a Croix De Lorraine in white red and gold enamel. In gold text the words "FRANCE LIBRE" over the croix de lorraine. The back of the pin in gold coloured and there is the following embossment: " REGD. NO / 83830". The pin is held with a single pin on the back. The number (83830) relates to the pin being patented in 1939. Historical Significance of the Croix de Lorraine: During WW2, the cross was adopted by Charles De Gaulle and the Free French Forces. It represented the French response to Germany's Nazi Swastika.

Worn in support of the FRANCE LIBRE movement during the Second World War. Worn by active service people and civilians alike.
