Description

Private Joseph René Mallette's Distinguished Conduct Medal and a professional portrait of him in uniform wearing the medal. The DCM is is attached to navy cardstock/cardboard backing and is accompanied by two coins. The medal has a red and blue striped ribbon and is silver. It has King George V's profile. Private J.R. Mallette's name and service number are engraved on the rim of the medal. The coins attached to the backing presumably represent his birth and death years; the top one being a 1890 one cent and the bottom a 1983 one cent coin. The portrait of René Mallette depicts him half-seated on a small wooden desk, presumably in a professional photo studio. He is wearing his full uniform and he is wearing his DCM on the left side of his chest. He also has two wound stripes on his left arm. He is wearing his cap and the RMR cap badge.

Use

The DCM was awarded to Private Mallette in May/June 1915 for "Conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Saint-Julien, although painfully wounded himself in rescuing a wounded comrade under heavy fire, carrying him back a considerable distance."
