Scope and Content

Scrapbook with orange paper cover, the title "Scraps" and the number 2 on the front. The contents feature newspaper clippings ranging from September 1, 1939 to September 20, 1939. The clippings are primarily in French, with the exception of a few pages in English. The clippings provide an overall view of the Western world's perspective as the war emerged. There are numerous images, including those of Adolf Hitler, Edouard Daladier, Benito Mussolini, and Neville Chamberlain. There are also several maps included in the clippings. Many of the clippings feature information related to Adolf Hitler's/Nazi Germany's actions, including Nazi Germany's occupation of Poland and what was anticipated to follow in the coming months. There is significant discussion regarding communications between Chamberlain and Hitler. One of the few pages featured in English includes an image of Hitler and a map of Europe, labelled with predictions of possible theatres of war.
