A black and white photo of a wartime book depot operated by the military. Its function was to collect books and reading material from the public and various organizations for distribution to members of the British Armed Forces.
Troops in the field do read but do not necessarily have the opportunity to buy new books & magazines. Civilians were invited to donate books and periodicals. Innumerable mail sacks were received, reviewed, and sent on to the soldiers wherever they may be - even those in POW captivity.
