Description

This equipment is where the "drafting" and twisting of the cotton began. The fundamental principle involved was to turn the rolls at different speeds, from slower to faster, to effect the twist and draw that would strengthen the thread to be able to handle the increasing tension that was added to the thread in subsequent machines. Over the years, Saco-Lowell experimented with the covering on the rolls, moving from high-quality leather to synthetic materials that had more flexibility and durability for the pounding the rolls took in the production process.
