Description

Glass lantern slide photo of the Prudential Offices Building on Broad Street in Newark, NJ. "Broad Street" is written on an "Essex Camera Club, Newark, NJ" slide label. The Prudential Building took up a substantial portion of Broad Street. The office complex was built between 1892 to 1911 and was well known for both its size and its elegance. Though the Prudential Financial still exists to this day, these buildings were demolished in the 1950's; the lion statues that graced the front of the building can now be found in Branch Brook Park. The billboard in front of the Prudential building is for the Simon-Reigel Cigar Co, which was based in New York City. The building directly below it appears to be the Newark Business College, which was based on Broad Street.
