Listed in museum records as the wedding dress of Maud Andrews Graves of Saco, this lovely cream silk printed with lilac-colored blossoms on black stems has a tracery of narrow purple velvet ribbons arcing over the skirt and detailing the bodice and sleeves. Matching cream and black trim outlines the "V" of the silk flanking the central cream lace panel in front, as well as the sash. Busy as the print itself is, this dress is all about the repeated interplay of the colors and the contrast of textures.
