Description

Photograph of workers in a picker room in the Laconia Division of the Pepperell Manufacturing Company. Laps of cotton moved from the opener picker through an intermediate picker and then were fed into a finisher picker. After that, the product of the finisher picker went to the carding machine. The picker machines cleaned the cotton by using fans and beaters and then formed it into rolls of uniform thickness. This collection of Laconia Mills photos was discovered in the attic of 116 North Street in Saco, ME by Arthur Morrow. City records show that Ernest L. Morrill, agent of the Pepperell Manufacturing Company from 1910 to 1924, lived at the house.
