Description

Photograph of workers at the back of the slashers in the Laconia Division of the Pepperell Manufacturing Company. The warper beams are being unwound before the yarn is passed through a trough of boiling starch. The yarn is then dried on huge steam-filled cylinders before being wound on the loom beam in front. (See 2022.59.43 and 2022.59.50 for views of the front of the slashers ). This collection of Laconia Mills photos was discovered in the attic of 116 North Street in Saco, ME by Arthur Morrow. City records show that Ernest L. Morrill, agent of the Pepperell Manufacturing Company from 1910 to 1924, lived at the house.
