Description

Blue-printed earthenware plate with “A SOUVENIR OF OLD ORCHARD BEACH/ MAINE.” in a banner at the bottom of the plate. Six popular attractions are depicted in individual cartouches enclosed by various types of scrollwork and flowers: The Old Orchard House, View of Pier, Pier, Googins Rocks, the Peanutine Wagon & Forest Pier Hotel, and The Egyptian Bazaar. These images were taken from photographic postcards. A stippled pattern encircles the reserves and alternating small flowers and fruit (?) form a border. An inexpensively and quickly produced plate, the print was smudged during the printing process, the printed mark on the back is also blurred, and there is cobalt residue on the back of the plate under the glaze.
