Description

Glass plate negative photo of Elm Street, near the corner of River Street (current day Diamond Street) in Biddeford, ME. Gilbert A. Sawyer, who owned a confectionery and variety store at 43 Elm Street, took this photo just outside his store. The original glass plate negative is overexposed (or has deteriorated). However, there is a print of the exact same image in the Roy Fairfield Room photo archives (#54) that is much better. Several signs and businesses can be seen including Coca-Cola, Union Soda Water Company, Gordon's Sunnyside Dining Room (and Lunch Room), F. Darvill's Bakery, and the S. Bouvier cobbler/shoe store.
