Description

Vasco De Gama Project staff outside of their building during a VIP inspection on March 16, 1943. The Saco-Lowell Shops were presented with a E flag and all the employees received a pin with an E on it and an official certificate. The project involved reclaiming scrap metal during World War 2. Identified people in the picture: In the front row, 4th from left, Owen Brewster, Governor of Maine; 5th, Mayor Louis Lausier of Biddeford; 6th, Gerry Nutting, Mayor of Saco and Saco-Lowell engineer. In the back: 2nd from left, Schoenfuss, Saco-Lowell metallurgist; 4th Vasco Da Gama; 5th, Ted Johnson; 7th, Ray Courtney, Saco-Lowell Purchasing Agent.
