Unique among Bradbury's work both because of its size and its composition, the Union reported on this painting when it was exhibited at the York County Fair in October, 1862: The first on the list was a picture "A Landscape and Portraits." A full length of a boy and a girl. The scene, a flowery bank beside a clump of trees and a view in the distance on the right side of the picture. The girl sitting on the bank, the boy standing by her, supporting himself by one arm around a tree, leaning over her and handing a bunch of grapes. The picture idea is very beautiful and carried out by the artist with a good degree of success. Mr. Bradbury attained a reputation in landscape painting but has painted few portraits. Award $3.00 for the best oil painting.
