The Old Peabody Pew cast with Kate Douglas WigginEntry/Object ID
1993.21.461Description
Glass plate negative photo of the cast of The Old Peabody Pew, a play written by Kate Douglas Wiggin. This photo was taken at the Tory Hill Church in Buxton, ME. Kate Douglas Wiggin can be seen (wearing her signature hat) posing with the cast. The gentleman on the left is A.L.T. Cummings, a long time performer of the play. A section of postcard has been pasted onto the back of the slide - "Aug. 10, 1933" is written on it in pencil. This is likely the processing date when this photo was made into postcards (KDW died in 1923). This postcard is still widely sold today as antique ephemera. This same postcard is in the Dyer Library archives "Gibeon E. Bradbury Family Papers" collection (MMS51.Ph4). There is also another postcard with the same image in the archives (PCSA.069.002) with the following information written on the back: "Presented by Mrs. Ruth Brown, 43 Middle St., Saco, ME. March 15, 1974. Mrs. Mary Brown, A. L. T. Cummings, Aunt Emma, Mrs. Lonas [?], Mrs. Algernon Dyer, Mrs. Herman Locke, Mrs. Riggs [Kate Douglas Wiggin was called 'Mrs. Riggs' in her circle of associates], Bertha Pierce, Mrs. Nathan, Fanny Milliken." The Maine Historical Society (Maine Memory Network) has a copy of the same print with slightly different identifications/names for the individuals.Made/Created
