In 1898, Bradbury recounted a river drive story from many years before:
About 40 years ago the logs jammed in the narrows just above Indian Cellars. The driver went down to start it. There was a log across that held the jam. Ellerson said he would cut it. A rope was tied around his body—under his arms—he took an axe and went down. The jam was twenty feet high. At the first stroke the log snapped with a loud report and the logs rushed down. But the drivers were ready and E. was pulled up instantly.
