Description

Two identical detachable men's wing-tip collars of fine white stiffened cotton or linen. Three horizontal button holes just above the lower edge secure them to a shirt. Tabs extend past the button holes on each side. Both upper and lower edges are slightly curved to fit around the neck. The upper corners are folded down and out to form the fashionable wing-tips. A single row of fine topstitching across the top and down each side and two rows of topstitching across the bottom hold the fabric in place.

Context

The Arrow "Tuxera" line was a specific style of formal collar and tuxedo shirt produced by Cluett, Peabody & Co., Inc. under their iconic Arrow brand. Popularized in the early 20th century, particularly the 1920s and 30s, the "Tuxara" line was designed for formal evening wear. Hallmarks of this style include pleated bib fronts, stiffened linen or cotton fabric, and French cuffs for cufflinks. It was part of the "Arrow Collar" era, promoted by the "Arrow Collar Man" advertisements illustrated by J.C. Leyendecker.
