The Marquis’ visit triggered a flood of Lafayette souvenirs. Enterprising businessmen put Lafayette's face on countless items and trinkets for sale including ribbons, gloves, handkerchiefs, and plates. They also sold Lafayette-related items like jewelry, pipes, pocket mirrors, buckles, buttons, fans, snuff boxes, combs, canes, and umbrellas.
