Description

Pieced cotton coverlet in pineapple variation of the log cabin pattern. The pieced top is fastened to the backing fabric with hidden stitches. There is no middle layer. The predominant colors are shades of pink and brown, light and dark. Fabrics are printed cottons, all over florals or stripes with florals. The only solid fabrics are the traditional red squares in the center of each pieced square (or in triangular form in the half squares that make up the borders). These red squares have solid green triangles as well as printed triangles to create the central motif. The backing fabric is a tiny all over blue foliage with scattered red flowers on an off-white ground. The backing forms the self-binding. Each pieced square is 20 inches by 20 inches with the red squares at the intersections. Most of the squares consistently use the same fabrics within each 20-inch square although a few were assembled using “neighboring” fabrics.
