In October, 1867, Bradbury entered two floral pictures in the local fair; the basket of flowers above and the painting of waterlilies to the left. The Maine Democrat mentioned both of them in their report:
No. 89, consisted of a group of flowers, pansies, violets, &c., &c., of the most delicate tints, with a perfect representation of a small winged insect, commonly called 'Lady Bug' making its way to the charming flowers above it. We thought it a painting of superior merit.
