Hermoine ship log 1805--1806Entry/Object ID
2015.217.1Description
Logbook of the ship "Hermoine" of Biddeford, one of Captain Thomas Cutts's ships. Laid paper sewn into two signatures of slightly different size, hand bound with a sailcloth cover. This logbook cover a portion of a longer voyage and starts in Amsterdam on September 6, 1805, and ends on August 28, 1806 with the vessel docked in New York. The log charts the ship's course, reports on daily weather conditions, and includes accounts of the cargo discharged and taken on at the ports of Amsterdam and Grorstick/Grounstick, which was presumably in the vicinity of St. Petersburg since that was the stated goal after leaving Amsterdam. The voyage in this logbook concludes in New York. The last page of the book is more than half blank and the last page of the signature has been torn out. The final page in the logbook is actually the final page of the first signature. A large rectangle in the left top corner has been torn out. The notations on this page do not clearly relate to the ship's voyage and include the names of several captains, a ship, a list of clothing, and various mathematical calculations.Material
