By the mid-1950s, coats had narrowed somewhat from the tent-like shapes that had been in favor at the beginning of the decade. They were still designed to hang fairly loosely from the shoulder, but lacked the extra fullness that had been considered stylish around 1950. Fur trim also experienced a revival in popularity at mid-decade, with fur collars, cuffs, pockets, and linings appearing on all sorts of outerwear. For those who could afford them, fur muffs, stoles, and capes were also considered very smart. This coat was owned by Margaret Sherman of Saco.
