Volume 2 of the travel diaries of Ethelinda Deering Frey, Cologne, August 8, 1910 to Territet, Switzerland, October 2, 1910Context
The second volume of Ethelinda Frey's travel diaries cover the groups journey through Germany in August 1910. By the beginning of September, they had arrived in Paris, where they stayed for about a week before traveling by train to Territet, Switzerland. In Territet, Luella Frey enrolled the three girls in the Institution des Essarts, a boarding school for young ladies. Their primary course of study was French (they were expected to speak French at all times while at the school), but they were took dance and embroidery classes. Perhaps the most memorable event during their time at the school was that Ethelinda and Helen found themselves quarantined for some weeks in the attic rooms after contracting chicken pox. Once they were deemed healthy, and no longer contagious, they returned to their classes.Dimensions
