The merchant ship HERMOINE was captained by Master Solomon Hopkins of Saco, ME. In 1807 she traveled to the Canary Islands, Goree Island off the coast of Africa, and the Boa Vista Islands where she took on a large cargo of salt. With this cargo they returned to Boston, selling to shops in town as well as to two schooners in port, the RESTITUTION and THE REGULATOR. After wintering in their home port of Biddeford Pool, they leave for Demerara with a large cargo of lumber in June of 1809. Once at the colony they trade with several prominent plantations, off-loading their lumber and taking on a cargo of rum and molasses.
