Description

Wool plaid skirt, blue, yellow, brown. 1 in waistband. 5 3/4 in pleats at the waist. The waistband closes with a single plastic button over a metal zipper. Hemmed with synthetic tape.

Context

The skirt was originally made by the donor's sister, Janet Tripp (Grant) (b. 1927) who wore it to Thornton Academy (graduated in 1945). The fabric was a gift from her brother, Millard A. Tripp Jr., aka "Bud" (b. 1926) . He attended TA until World War II broke out and, being colorblind, went into the Merchant Marines. During his service, he went to Scotland where he purchased the fabric. The donor wore the skirt in the 1970s and 1980s with a dark brown blazer, possibly velvet.
