Description

Glass lantern slide of a woman riding an elephant at Luna PArk, Coney Island, New York. "Luna Park, Coney Island" is written an "Essex Camera Club, Newark, NJ"

Context

It is likely that this photo was taken on May 27th, 1905--a day just like any other, except for the fact that the paper "The Evening World" was hosting their "World Camera Day" at Luna Park. The Evening World published extensive advertising, as well as a large page article covering the event. Amateur photographers were invited to compete to take home $175 in cash prizes. All one needed to do was clip out the coupon from the Evening World and bring their camera to receive free admission to Luna Park. Though there is no record of Moody specifically attending this event, the first prize winner was a fellow member of the Essex Camera Club.
