Visual depictions of Arthur D. Prince, Grand Master of Massachusetts, 1920-22. Arthur D. Prince was born July 5, 1867, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and was raised in William North Lodge in Lowell in 1891, serving as its Master in 1904-05; he was also a charter member of William Sewall Gardner Lodge and belonged to St. Paul's Lodge No. 30 in Alstead, New Hampshire. He served as Grand Steward (1907), District Deputy Grand Master of the 11th District (1911-12), Deputy Grand Master (1919), and Grand High Priest of the Royal Arch (1916-18) before his election as Grand Master in 1920, later serving as Relief Commissioner from 1932 to 1948. A merchant in stationery, jewelry, and musical instruments, he became the first Massachusetts Grand Master to visit the jurisdiction's affiliated lodges in China, traveling there in 1922; during his term more than 33,000 Master Mason diplomas were issued and 34 new lodges were chartered. Prince died October 13, 1950, in Lowell.
