Arthur H. Melanson was born August 31, 1918, in Lynn, Massachusetts, and was raised in Montgomery Lodge in Milford in 1953, later affiliating with Wellesley Lodge in 1955 and serving as its Worshipful Master in 1971; he was also a charter member and Chaplain of The Masters Lodge in Newtonville. He served as Grand Chaplain across several years in the 1970s and as Deputy Grand Master (1972) before his election as Grand Master in 1978, later serving as Director of Masonic Education (1984-87). An ordained minister with degrees from Gordon College and Andover Newton Theological School, he pastored three Baptist and Congregational churches, worked as a guidance counselor in the Wellesley Public Schools for eleven years, held positions with the National Council of Churches, and served on the Babson College board. He received the Scottish Rite 33rd degree in 1979. Melanson died April 14, 1994, in Natick, Massachusetts.Relationships
