Coolidge was born October 13, 1881, and was raised in Zetland Lodge in 1902, serving as its Worshipful Master in 1925-26; he was also a member of the Harvard Lodge of Cambridge. He served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Boston Second District (1927-28) and Deputy Grand Master (1941) before his election as Grand Master in 1944. A lawyer, he served in the Massachusetts State Senate and as Senate President (1945-46), declining re-election as Grand Master in order to run for Lieutenant Governor, a post he held from 1947 to 1949. A ninth-generation descendant of Governor William Bradford and fifth cousin of President Calvin Coolidge, he died January 22, 1952.
