Visual depictions of Baalis Sanford, Grand Master of Massachusetts, 1903-05. Baalis Sanford was born October 4, 1833, in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and became Worshipful Master of Paul Revere Lodge in Brockton in 1868-69, also affiliating with the Satucket Royal Arch Chapter, Brockton Council of Royal and Select Masters, and Bay State Commandery of Knights Templar. He served as Grand Sword Bearer in 1877, Grand Pursuivant in 1878, District Deputy Grand Master of the 19th and 24th Districts from 1882 to 1884, and Senior Grand Warden in 1887 before his election as Grand Master in 1903. A dry-goods merchant with the firm H.W. Robinson & Co., he served as president of the Brockton Savings Bank and represented Brockton in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1879. After his Grand Mastership he went on to serve as Grand High Priest of the Royal Arch Chapter (1907-09) and Grand Master of the Council of Royal and Select Masters (1900-02). Sanford died November 11, 1909, in Boston.
