Visual depictions of Caleb Butler, Grand Master of Massachusetts, 1841-42. Caleb Butler, born September 13, 1776, in Pelham, New Hampshire, was a Dartmouth graduate (1800) who served as preceptor of Groton Academy from 1802 to 1815 before working as a surveyor, lawyer, and Groton town clerk and selectman. A member of St. Paul's Lodge, where he served as Worshipful Master three times, he also served as District Deputy Grand Master, Senior Grand Warden, and Deputy Grand Master en route to the Grand East. He died October 7, 1854, in Groton.
