Visual depictions of Charles C. Dame, Grand Master of Massachusetts, 1866-68. Charles Chase Dame, born June 5, 1819, in Kittery Point (then part of Massachusetts), began his career as a schoolteacher before turning to law, and served as Mayor of Newburyport in 1886. A member of Revere Lodge in Boston, where he served as Master in 1860–61, he was Junior Grand Deacon and Deputy Grand Master (1863–65) before his election as Grand Master, and served many additional years on the Grand Lodge's Board of Directors; he presided over the 1867 dedication of the Masonic Temple, attended by President Andrew Johnson. He died January 19, 1901, in Newburyport.
