Visual depictions of Charles C. Hutchinson, Grand Master of Massachusetts, 1897-99. Charles C. Hutchinson was born June 9, 1832, in Andover, Massachusetts, and rose through the offices of Ancient York Lodge in Lowell, from Senior Deacon in 1855-56 to Worshipful Master in 1858. He served as a Director of the Grand Lodge from 1892 to 1909, as Grand Commander of the Knights Templar in 1884-85, and received the 33rd degree as an Active Member of the Supreme Council in 1896, the year before his election as Grand Master. His career, spanning some sixty years in banking, included service as Treasurer of the Mechanics Savings Bank of Lowell from 1871 to 1913, and he also served as president of the Lowell Common Council in 1881. During his term as Grand Master, the new Boston Masonic Temple was constructed and dedicated. Hutchinson died April 29, 1915, in Lowell.
