Dana J. Flanders was born December 21, 1850, and belonged to a succession of lodges over his Masonic career: Gideon Lodge No. 84 in Kingston, New Hampshire (1872-73), Merrimack Lodge in Haverhill, where he was Master in 1879-80, and as a charter member of both Converse Lodge in Malden (1887) and the Lodge of Stirling in Malden (1912). He served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 10th District from 1883 to 1885 and as Junior Grand Warden in 1888 before his election as Grand Master in 1909, and he later served as Grand Commander of the Knights Templar (1904-05). A career railroad executive with the Boston & Maine, he rose from telegraph operator to Passenger Traffic Manager by 1910, and also served as president of the Malden Trust Company. As Grand Master he dedicated the Masonic Home at Charlton and received the Scottish Rite 33rd degree in 1897. Flanders died May 3, 1933.Relationships
