Edgar W. Darling was born March 27, 1927, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and was raised in Esoteric Lodge there on April 19, 1951, serving as its Worshipful Master in 1958. He served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Chicopee 18th District (1974-75), Junior Grand Warden (1979), and Grand Lecturer (1979-83) before his installation as the 80th Grand Master in 1990. He spent more than forty years at Northeast Utilities, rising from meter reader to Director of Nuclear Purchasing and Major Projects, and served in the U.S. Merchant Marine in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific theaters during World War II. Over his long Masonic life he affiliated with thirteen additional lodges between 1988 and 2018, was made an Honorary Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma in 1992, and received the Scottish Rite 33rd degree. Darling died October 8, 2018, in Charlton, Massachusetts, at the age of 91.Relationships
