Visual depictions of Edward A. Raymond, Grand Master of Massachusetts, 1849-51. Edward Asa Raymond, born February 6, 1791, in Holden, was a grocer turned customs appraiser and real-estate investor who was active in Freemasonry for roughly forty-nine years. A member of Amicable Lodge in Cambridge, Saint John's Lodge in Boston, and the Massachusetts Lodge, he served as Grand High Priest and Senior Grand Warden before his election as Grand Master, and later served roughly twelve years as Grand Commander of the Supreme Council, Northern Jurisdiction; he presided over the Masonic Temple's board of trustees for about twenty-five years. He died August 1, 1864, in Brookline.
