Visual depictions of Everett C. Benton, Grand Master of Massachusetts, 1912-13. Everett C. Benton was born September 25, 1862, in Guildhall, Vermont, and was raised in Simon W. Robinson Lodge in Lexington in 1895, later founding and serving as first Worshipful Master of Benton Lodge No. 88 in his native Guildhall (1901) and as a charter member of Beaver Lodge in Belmont. He served as Deputy Grand Master in 1906 and as Commander-in-Chief of the Massachusetts Consistory from 1906 to 1909, receiving the honorary 33rd degree in 1902, before his election as Grand Master in 1912. An insurance executive, he was a partner in John C. Paige & Company and founder of the Massachusetts Fire and Marine Insurance Company, and he was active in Republican politics, served as Belmont's town moderator, and founded the town's first newspaper, the Courier, in 1889. Benton Lodge in Belmont, chartered in 1925, was named in his honor. He died February 4, 1924, in Belmont, Massachusetts.
