Visual depictions of Fred K. Bauer, Grand Master of Massachusetts, 1999-2001. Fred K. Bauer was born April 21, 1936, and entered North Reading Lodge in 1968, raised the same year on June 17, and later served as its Worshipful Master in 1974-75; he was also a Past Master of The Masters Lodge. He served as Junior Grand Steward (1979), District Deputy Grand Master of the Malden 7th District (1980-81), and Deputy Grand Master (1988) before his election as Grand Master in 1999. He worked as a traffic manager and supervisor for Monsanto Chemical, Carling Brewing, Bird Inc., and General Electric's Lynn and Fitchburg plants, retiring in 1998, and later served as a director of the Reading Co-operative Bank. He was active in York and Scottish Rite Masonry, serving as Treasurer of the Scottish Rite Valley of Boston (2003-06), receiving the Scottish Rite 33rd degree in 1998, and marching with the Aleppo Temple Shrine clown unit under the name "Kirby"; he also served as Executive Officer of Massachusetts DeMolay from 1989 to 1999. Bauer died in August 2006.
