Jaynes was born March 4, 1905, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and entered Belmont Lodge in 1938, later serving as its Worshipful Master in 1946. He served as Junior Grand Steward (1948), Grand Marshal (1951-53), and Senior Grand Warden (1954) before his election as Grand Master in 1969, receiving the Scottish Rite 33rd degree as a Sovereign Grand Inspector General in 1965. For more than forty years he worked as sales manager for the Jenkins Bros. valve company, and he served as a trustee of the Cambridge YMCA and New England Deaconess Hospital. As Grand Master he relocated the Masonic nursing home from Shrewsbury to Charlton and led improvements there. Jaynes died September 21, 1989, in Charlton, Massachusetts.
