John Warren, the younger brother of Joseph Warren, was born July 27, 1753, and, after serving as Senior Warden of the Massachusetts Lodge, went on to help lead the proceedings that reunited Massachusetts's two rival Grand Lodges in 1792. A physician and surgeon, he treated the wounded at Bunker Hill as a Revolutionary War hospital surgeon, was appointed Harvard's first Hersey Professor of Anatomy and Surgery in 1782, effectively founding the university's medical instruction, delivered the first Fourth of July oration in 1783, and continued treating patients through the yellow-fever epidemics of 1798 and 1802; he and his wife, Abby Collins, had nineteen children. He died on April 4, 1815.
