Josiah Bartlett, born August 11, 1759, was the charter member and first Master, in 1783, of King Solomon's Lodge in Charlestown, and went on to serve as Senior Grand Warden (1787–89, 1792–93) and Deputy Grand Master (1794) before two terms as Grand Master. He began his working life as a Continental Army surgeon at just fifteen years old in 1775, later practiced medicine in Charlestown, and served as a Massachusetts state senator and councilor. He died on March 5, 1820.
