Leon M. Abbott was born August 28, 1867, and was initiated into Columbian Lodge in Boston in 1894, serving as its Worshipful Master in 1906-07. He was District Deputy Grand Master of the First Masonic District (1908-09) and Senior Grand Warden (1913) before his election as Grand Master in 1917, a term that coincided with American involvement in the First World War. During the war he established a relief fund that raised approximately $170,000 across every lodge in the jurisdiction to aid Masons and their families in need. He later served as Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, from 1921 until his death on October 10, 1932.Relationships
