Weld was born May 20, 1840, in Boston and was initiated into the Lodge of Eleusis on January 18, 1866, later serving as its Worshipful Master from 1872 to 1874. He was Junior Grand Warden in 1879-80 and received the 33rd degree as a Sovereign Grand Inspector General before being elected Grand Master in 1894. A wine merchant who headed the firm Otis E. Weld & Co., he also served as a director of the Third National Bank and the Boylston Insurance Company and as president of the Temple Club, and he had held military commissions with the Independent Corps of Cadets and the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company during the Civil War, stationed at Fort Warren. Weld never married and, upon his death in Savannah, Georgia, on March 17, 1897, bequeathed $20,000 to the Masonic Education and Charity Trust.
