Paul Dean, born March 28, 1783, in Barnard, Vermont, was an ordained Universalist minister who served as Chaplain of Columbian Lodge for nearly two decades and as Grand Chaplain across several terms, as well as District Deputy Grand Master, Deputy Grand Master, and Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter, before his election as Grand Master; he was affiliated with Centre Lodge No. 6 in Vermont, Saint John's Lodge in Boston, and held honorary membership in Columbian Lodge. He was a signer of the 1831 Declaration defending Freemasonry during the height of anti-Masonic persecution. He died October 1, 1860, in Framingham.
