Visual depictions of Paul Revere, Grand Master of Massachusetts, 1795-97. Paul Revere, baptized January 1, 1735 (born December 21, 1734), was the second Grand Master elected following the 1792 union of Massachusetts's Grand Lodges, having risen through the offices of Senior Grand Deacon, Junior and Senior Grand Warden, and two terms as Deputy Grand Master; as Grand Master he chartered twenty-three lodges and, in 1795, laid the Masonic cornerstone of the Massachusetts State House. A member of St. Andrew's Lodge from 1760 and a founder of Rising States Lodge in 1784, he was by trade a silversmith, engraver, dentist, and cannon founder, and in 1800 he established the first successful copper-rolling mill in America at Canton, Massachusetts, which later supplied the copper sheathing for the USS Constitution; he crafted the golden urn that held a lock of George Washington's hair and remains best remembered for his Revolutionary War "Midnight Ride" of April 1775 warning of the British advance. He died on May 10, 1818.
