Samuel Wells, born September 9, 1836, was a Harvard graduate (1857) and Boston attorney in the firm of Bangs and Wells, who also served as president of the State Street Exchange and vice president of John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance. Raised in Revere Lodge in 1863, where he served as Worshipful Master (1873–74) and Treasurer for eight years, he served as Grand Treasurer (1879–1887) and Deputy Grand Master (1888–89) before his election as Grand Master, and was later Illustrious Deputy of the Scottish Rite for Massachusetts and received the 33rd degree in 1892. He died October 3, 1903.
