Visual depictions of Sereno D. Nickerson, Grand Master of Massachusetts, 1872-74. Sereno Dwight Nickerson, born October 16, 1823, was a Yale- and Harvard Law-trained mercantile businessman who founded and directed the Third National Bank of Boston and edited the New England Freemason. A member of Winslow Lewis Lodge in Boston, where he served as Worshipful Master (1861–63), he progressed through District Deputy Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master before his election as Grand Master, and later served an extraordinarily long tenure as Recording Grand Secretary (1881–1908) and as Grand Historian (1908–09). He died November 6, 1909.
