Whitfield W. Johnson was born March 25, 1897, in Galva, Illinois, and was a charter member of The Harvard Lodge in 1922, serving as its Master in 1932-33 and again in 1977-78. He rose through a long series of Grand Lodge offices, including Junior Grand Steward (1936), Grand Sword Bearer (1941-43), Grand Marshal (1944-47, 1950), and Senior Grand Warden (1948), before his election as Grand Master in 1954, and he served as Judge Advocate from 1938 to 1963 and as Grand Representative to North Carolina and later Illinois. A Harvard College (A.B. 1920) and Harvard Law School (LL.B. 1923) graduate, he practiced law in partnership with Judge Bert E. Holland; he received the Henry Price Medal in 1944 and was reportedly regarded as one of the highest-ranking Masons in the world during his tenure as Grand Master. Johnson died April 15, 1995, in Concord, Massachusetts, at the age of 98.Relationships
